My posts | To Canada - a (b)logfile

Yesterday I went to Comox, Canada to visit my parents for 1.25 months. Since the airplane ride was quite boring, and I like to share, I kept a logfile on my trusty Zaurus SL-C3200 so now everyone can be bored. Also, more in style of the rest of this website, here are the first couple of pictures. I'm sure there is more to follow!

• 05:30 CEST: Waking up....
• 06:15 CEST: heading to Schiphol by car
• 07:00 CEST: My suitcase has been checked in. Luckily I had my tickets checked in electronically so I was able to skip a very long line! Lots of sour faces when I (loudly) proclaimed I didn't have to wait :) After that we went to get some coffee, and then we had to do the goodbye stuff as I had to go through customs.
• 09:45 CEST: flight was a bit delayed due to bad weather, but we started boarding now.
• 10:04 CEST: take off!
• 11:28 CEST: arived at Heathrow, went to check in and then to the bus to terminal 3.
• 12:12 CEST: arived at terminal 3, gate nr still unknown, so I went to view a few shops.
• 12:24 CEST: gate number is now on the displays, started walking
• 12:30 CEST: arived at gate 27, started waiting at gate 27..
• 12:36 CEST: local scouting club also is joining this aircraft. And they are allowed first on the plane too!
• 12:49 CEST: started boarding, intercom system is down so it goes a bit slow
• 13:30 CEST: we should be going now... but we're still on the ground waiting. I'm sitting next to a somewhat nice but not so talkative Asian lady - this will be a long and boring flight.
• 14:15 CEST: fasten seatbelts has just been turned off, so back to updating the log.
• 16:07 CEST: currently watching the feature movie. It's a boring movie called Shooter. Just ate some chicken with a bottle of wine and a few cookies.
• 18:34 CEST: Slept a little. Now watching the 2nd feature movie - Music and lyrics. Being a little tired and cramped.
• 19:22 CEST: still watching. still being bored. oh, and cramped, and tired, and my eyes hurt from the intense white light of the sun shining on the cloudy white mountains. If only _all_ the blinds could be closed!
• 19:45 CEST: Got myself a beer, a chicken pastry and some ice. They forgot the spoon though, oh wait: found it! Inside the box!
• 19:52 CEST: The "sleeping period" of this flight seems over. People are waking up. Might have something to do with the fact that music and lyrics just finished though. Already seen it before - still kinda funny.
• 19:58 CEST: found a classical music channel on the PA system, which is kinda relaxing to listen to. I cannot really place it (mostly due to lack of knowledge) but drinking a beer, listening to classical music and watching other passengers is strangely entertaining. I guestimate that this flight will take _another_ 3 hours though...
• 20:01 CEST: Yup I was right. They brought the stats display back up. We've just entered Canada, and are flying over Rankin Inlet. 3:06 remaining.
• 20:27 CEST: Noooo! They're restarting the first film - Shooter! Something I definately don't want to see twice! Hope the trip doesn't also restart...
• 20:29 CEST: They noticed their mistake and are now starting something else.
• 20:31 CEST: I just noticed that "buiktassen" are still completely fashionable here...
• 20:32 CEST: And the movie is... Frequency! Already know that one though.
• 22:32 CEST: Movie ended. Didn't watch it. Was reading a book. Should be only half an hour remaining now... (yes I'm bored!)
• 22:52 CEST: We've started our descend. My ears hurt - a lot!
• 23:50 CEST: arrived at Vancouver. It's humid here, and my ears are still de-popping. I've just checked in my bags at Central Mountain Air (which really was at the _other_ side of the airport) and I now have to wait a few hours... again :)
• 0:25 CEST or 15:25 local: I'd better start using local time now. Have to get used to it sometime. Currently still waiting. I tried to get some coffee but all shops here accept visa and not mastercard. That shows that old fashioned cash-in-pocket can still be an effective tool. Oh well I'll survive one less coffee :)
• 16:06 just went through security. Again. I think thats the third time that my laptop was X-rayed. On the plus side: it should be really sterile now :)
• 16:17 waiting at gate B18 to Comox. This must be one of the most remote gates of this airfield. I hear the propeller plane comming in right now. Boarding should commence in 10 minutes.
• 18:00 Whoa! What a flight! It's really nice to sit in a Beechcraft 1900D with only room for 18 persons. A good ending for an otherwise very boring day. Now I was finally able to take some pictures :-)
