My posts | About the twins, the compressor and the flash.

2007-08-13 06:01 - About the twins, the compressor and the flash.

Last June two baby deer were born in our backyard. They are still quite attached to this place, as they come by here almost every day. When that happens my dad usually feeds them an apple or two. They're quite docile and eat from your hand.

In other news: my mother just bought a new compressor, and because of it's somewhat gigantic power requirements we had to put a new power cable underground.

This brings me to something completely different though: in The Netherlands it is quite normal to split off your electricity almost everywhere with a tiny junction box, and seal that behind a wall. This is explicitly not allowed here: every junction box must be visible. For us this leads to the placements of junction boxes and breaker panels throughout the house. And also almost every outlet has it's own breaker. What we're also quite used to is modifying the electrical wirings ourselves, since this is cheaper, easier and less bothersome. Here, this is also not allowed. This has nothing to do with the fact that you cannot do it yourself, but more with insurance. If you modify something yourself and you sell the house later on, and something bad happens years later with your own modification and someone gets injured it's your fault, even when you told the new owner about the modification and he acknowledged it. As a consequence: most people here are very cautious about modifying their own electrical systems and they only let certified technicians(TM) handle this job.

And in completely different news: I've just bought myself a decent flash for my camera which I can also fire remotely. I'm still learning how to use it though...

Chances are you'll see more excellent hmm better lighted somewhat lighted, uh.. more pictures here soon!
