My posts | Moving is difficult

2008-09-04 12:57 - Moving is difficult

So, as you've probably guessed, I'm back!

I've been working on TRECVID for the last couple of months, which is going very nicely, more on this later. Also I've picked up a very interesting hobby somewhere, you probably might deduct which one by looking at some recent pictures. Safe to say, I've met a lot of new friends, and found an excellent place to make lots of interesting pictures :) More on this later too!

So why do I write something then? Well, because something silly happened today. Let me explain: my colleague, Cees, is finally moving higher up! (i.e. he now has an office upstairs). This, in itself, is a difficult process, since in order to work in the new office he needs his computer, and to be able to use his computer there MAC adresses and TCP/IP sockets need to be changed, and fixed. And before the guys who can do that are allowed to do that, a moving company needs to physically move his computer - you are not allowed to do this yourself.

I can understand the reasoning behind this. Still nothing has moved so far, and it's already taking 4 weeks.

But now Koen, my other colleague wants to take his desk, because it's situated better. . .

Of course you understand that for this action we also need an official move request, and an official moving company will be hired to move his computer to the other desk, because of regulations. . . Hmm, let me schetch this out to make it more clear:

I guess this is bureaucracy-at-work! :)

The good news is that the guy who will move my computer today came for a final check (no kidding), and he thinks the computer will be moved next Friday, if capacity allows of course...

Well, now I finally get to see my brother's desk. :P Guess I know now why I haven't visited his work yet: he needs to tidy everything up first!
